Huntington’s Disease - The Fight
On January 11th 2006, retired Capt. Denis P. Fleming, of the Fire Department of New York, lost his courageous battle against Huntington’s Disease (HD). FightHD.org was created to honor his legacy and continue the fight for a cure to this devastating hereditary neuro-degenerative disease. For over a decade we have held various fund raising events to support HD families impacted in our community and support leading research partners like University of California Davis, Stem Cell Program and Institute for Regenerative Cures led by Jan Nolta, Phd., Professor & Director and team.
Huntington's Disease is a devastating, hereditary degenerative brain disorder for which there is, at present, no effective treatment or cure. HD slowly diminishes the affected individual's ability to walk, think, talk and reason. Eventually, the person with HD becomes totally dependent upon others for this or her care. Sadly HD profoundly affects the lives of entire families-emotionally, socially and economically.
